The Rise of Kyoshi Title Sequence

PROBLEM
The project assignment was to conceptualize and execute a complete title sequence for a novel that has not been adapted into a film. The challenge was to build a full cinematic narrative and motion style from scratch for The Rise of Kyoshi, translating a purely text-based fantasy story into a compelling, animated trailer.

STRATEGY
I created a hand-drawn motion sequence using continuous atmospheric camera shifts and dynamic typographic reveals to capture the book's central mystery and tension. Key creative highlights included:

• Illustrative Motion & Framing: Paired stylized, hand-drawn stills with subtle, ongoing camera pans to maintain continuous momentum and visual depth across every scene.

• Typographic Distortion & Reveal: Designed kinetic typography that starts jumbled and fragmented before resolving into clear titles, directly mirroring the narrative's themes of confusion and ultimate identity reveal.

• Dramatic Visual Pacing: Structured the visual sequence to escalate from world turmoil to an intense climax, using bold transitions to convey the raw emotion of Kyoshi’s rise.

RESULT
Delivered a high-impact, narrative-driven title sequence that demonstrates how book-to-screen adaptation concepts can be realized through illustration, kinetic typography, and motion design.
